The summer heat is very unforgiving when it comes to your makeup. Nothing is worse than spending an hour on your perfectly blended and beat face, then walking outside just for it to melt off. The tips below have been proven to work for my oily/combo skin in the heat. While this post and these tips won’t stop you from sweating completely (that’s a natural bodily function), it will help with your makeup withstanding the heat, sweat, and sun that Summer 2018 (and beyond) will bring.
- Moisturize: Making sure the skin isn’t dry from the beginning is a crucial step in the process. Nothing is worse than adding matte products to a cracked and dry surface. You want your skin to be hydrated so it can help absorb and blend the makeup you use.
- Prime + Set With Translucent Powder: Primers are essential to prepping your skin as well. Finding primer that isn’t necessarily “matte”, but eliminates shine and oil whole blurring the skin will help your foundation last all day. After applying the primer, a trick loved by many makeup lovers is using a damp sponge to apply a thin layer of translucent setting powder to the face in areas that tend to get the most shine and sweat. These areas are the T-Zone aka the bridge of nose and forehead, around the mouth and the side of the mouth.
- Matte Matters: Matte foundations are key in the summertime heat for oily skin. They help eliminate unnecessary shine, which is the goal for this particular routine. You will also want to use a matte concealer to highlight and contour. If you’re anything like me, I hate cream concealers for contouring, so using a powder contour (which is obviously matte) helps my sculpted face last all day.
- Powder (Almost) Everything Again: Once you have your foundation and concealer in place, it’s time to dip back into your favorite setting powder. Using a brightening/translucent powder for the under eyes and a translucent or skin tone powder for the rest of the face will keep the face intact.
- Setting Spray: Whether you use a mattifying spray or just a facial mist, setting your face with a spray will help lock in all of the products into the skin. Make sure you cover the entire face so that no spot is left unset.
