That title is a little misleading isn’t it? This isn’t a article about how to send a sexy photo, maybe next time. 😉
But now that you’re back here (or new to Good Girl Gone Fab), let’s discuss the perfect nude lip. It’s a staple in the world of makeup but sometimes making a nude lip look perfect can be a tricky experience. I know that being a woman of color, a “nude” anything (lip, panties, bra) can end up being two to three shades lighter than our skin tone and can make for an awkward look. A nude lip should be simple AND stand out at the same time. Tricky.
Luckily Good Girl Gone Fab is all about sharing and teaching so with these tips, finding a nude lip should be a little easier after reading this post! I have three products that I live by that help me rock my nude lip.
The first step is not being afraid to try lip colors and maybe fail. The best part of makeup is getting to experiment. So find a nude color and try it. It could be gold or it could be terrible.
My favorite nude lip colors are “Taupe” by MAC and “Abu Dhabi” by NYX. Both of these colors are a matte formula but are very different in look when applied to the lips.
“Taupe” is a matte color but to me it applies more satin-like. It’s definitely not a drying formula and it can be applied easily to the lips. It and has a mauve undertone that really looks great on all skin tones. This color along with the liner below was featured in my first youtube video, so be sure to check that out.
“Abu Dhabi” was featured on my blog in the past in my beauty haul. It’s a soft matte lip cream, which means it’s applied like a gloss but it dries matte. The texture is soft almost like a whipped formula. It’s also only $6.
The best part of this beauty tip is this next step: Lip Liner. Lip liner can transform any lip color and make it subtitle for all skin tones. This is why it’s important to try all colors of lip products because the can work with a little help.
My favorite lip liner of all time is “Chestnut” by MAC. IT IS AMAZING. ITS IS PERFECT. I live by this brown liner because you can almost wear it with any color — even red. Yes, I wear it with my “Ruby Woo” by MAC. But it’s a gem when it comes to making a nude lip perfect, especially for women of color because the brown liner makes the transition from skin to lip flawless.
So to get the perfect nude the only real key is to experiment with colors and find a liner that will make it work.
