Not too long ago, I was asked to do a post on my skincare routine. But it took me awhile to finally blog about my skincare regime because it’s an evolving one.
I don’t do anything particularly special honestly. In fact, I’m the last person to say I take skincare seriously. I do however, make sure to take care of my skin. I have a few holy grail products that I can share and any “secrets” I have to keep my skin healthy and happy. So here is my skincare routine, which can of course improved…so don’t judge me.
Insight on my skin:
- Oily, mostly in the T-zone area
- Dark under eye circles and a few dark spots from teenage acne scars
- Random breakouts on the cheek and forehead
If you’re a makeup lover, like me, then of course the first step to keeping your face happy is removing your makeup every night. I know after a long night of partying, the only thing you want to do is get right in the bed. But getting a few minutes extra of sleep isn’t worth waking up to a face that hates you.
And by hating you, I mean waking up to a dirty, oily and acne prone face. Breakouts are bound to happen when sleeping in makeup. So I’ve been making it my duty to wipe off my makeup nightly. I prefer the Neutrogena Cleansing Wipes. They’re inexpensive, come in many formulas based on skin type and wipe away ALL of my makeup. The best long lasting liner or lipstick is easily wiped away with one of these wipes. They keep my skin clean and refreshed after a long day so buy them almost every two weeks.
CLEANSE
After wiping away my makeup, I makes sure to clean it with face wash. My favorites are from Boscia, which I have reviewed here before. But I really can’t get enough of their products.
I’ll start with my all time favorite: their Detoxifying Black Cleanser. It’s a cleanser with the intent to detoxify and deep cleanse your skin, while dissolving things that clog your pores such as oil and makeup. The best part of cleanser to me is the “warming” sensation. Its warm to the touch and it a great way to wake up the skin, bringing our your natural glow. I use this at least once a day, mostly at night, and it has also helped reduce the size of my pores.
Another Boscia cleanser, Clear Complexion Cleanser is a new one that I’ve been using. While I don’t consider myself having acne, I do get breakouts from stress, oil and unhealthy habits in general. Once noticing I was having breakouts more than I would like, I decided to try a cleanser formulated to fight the pimples. This cleanser features Willow Bark Extract, a natural Beta Hydroxy Acid (Salicylic Acid), which is an acne fighting acid. It’s a super lightweight cleansing gel and it’s really nice for those with sensitive skin. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and my skin looks more radiant and the breakouts on my cheeks specifically, have cleared up. I use this every morning in the shower to start my day.
MOISTURIZE
This part of my daily routine hasn’t changed at all in the past year. My all time favorite moisturizer is the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, for oily skin. They have multiple formulas of this product based on skin type so there’s a similar moisturizer for everyone. What I love most about this gel is that it hydrates my skin so effortlessly. It glides on my skin, instantly gives me a subtle glow and makes my face feel so fresh and so clean. I use it twice daily, in the morning and night right after washing my face with my cleanser. Other than I’m running low on the product, I have no complaints on the product at all. It gets the job done and it’s simple.
Another product I use for skincare (and makeup) is the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea. This product smells SOOOO good and it’s only at Ulta. After applying my favorite moisturizer, I usually mist my face and neck with a bit of the spray to give my face a dewy glow. It’s pretty much a hydrating boost to keep my skin from drying. It could be over kill but it makes my face feel soft and smells great. It is also great for loose powder once applied to the face to prevent any caked up looks.
MASKS
I try to do a face mask at least once a week! Sundays are usually the best day for me to sit down and let the mask do it’s thing. Especially since I don’t wear makeup on Sundays for the most part. One mask that I really do love is (again) the Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding. It’s pretty similar to the Black Cleanser by Boscia, but it’s a thicker formula that you let sit on your face for about 15-20 minutes. It’s a great way to start or end any week since it does detoxify and intensely cleans your pores. After using the pore pudding, my face looks more radiant and youthful and it feels soooooo soft, which is my favorite part.
LIVING HEALTHY
Other than using the products mentioned, the one thing I do think that helps my skin is drinking water ALL OF THE TIME. With the exception of alcohol (i know….), water is the only thing I drink. It’s the simplest way to get your body hydrated and it’ll clear up your skin along with cleansing. I even make detox water to help with the taste, not to mention fruits have their own benefits that will only help the glow.
Overall I think skincare can be simple if you want it to be. Of course there are people with special cases, but I have been lucky enough to just have to do a few step system to keep my skin relatively happy. We can all improve on our lives and skin so any steps you take can help.
