Lately here on GoodGirlGoneFab, lashes have been a big focus. What can I say? Having big and bold lashes are key to any makeup look. I recently picked up the (kinda, new) Maybelline Big Shot Mascara. I typically don’t rely toooooo heavily on drug store mascaras. I have the L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara, (reviewed here) and it’s a great buy. But I’ve heard so many great reviews about the Big Shot Mascara. So I decided to get #BossedUp too (that’s the slogan for the mascara!)
Since this is a drugstore mascara, my expectations weren’t the highest based on previous fails and disappointments.
Lashes Before!
In high school I loved the CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara (orange tube, iconic). It was a great product but as an older young lady, I got boujee and Sephora changed the game. So back to now, I’m still boujee but trying to remain frugal as well. I’ve seen reviews on the Big Shot Mascara saying it was comparable to the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.
I was like oh shit. It’s lit…I had to get my hands on it and try.
Long story short, the Big Shot Mascara is a good drug store mascara. It’s only $8.49 at Ulta or the drugstore and it’ll get the job done. I wouldn’t say I love it though. I like the product because it does make my lashes feel and look a bit thicker. It’s available in three colors; Very Black, Blackest Black and Brownish Black.
Lashes After!
Why don’t I love it?
I just feel like the product is gimmicky. It’s designed to be a hype product in itself since it’s heavily endorsed by YouTubers, MakeupShayla and MannyMUA, who are spokespeople for the product. Along with the hype, the product didn’t last all day for me. After a few hours, I felt like my lashes looked watered down and less thick. I also found myself using my Better Than Sex on top anyways because they didn’t have too much volume! I really felt as if the lashes look long and skinny like spider legs. (Yikes).
I think it would be a great addition when wearing false lashes, adding volume to those or bottom lashes. So sure, you can add this to your makeup bag for an affordable option but it wouldn’t be a product that I rely on for long days or wild nights.
