As a kid, I dreaded the upcoming season of Fall. Fall used to mean back to school and even worst, bed times. But now that I’m a grown ass woman, I can stay up all night.
I can do that any time of the year now, so the real best part of Fall is this season’s fashion and television. This Summer, the only premiere I was excited for was Orange Is The New Black. Now, the best of TV’s shows (and Football) are back in September and even more exciting are the new series we’ve all been talking about. Check GGGF’s list of Hot Fall TV Shows That I’ll Be Tweeting About.
Atlanta: This is first on the list because of my huge crush on Donald Glover (super fan girl moment). Another reason it’s first on the list is because it’s pure genius. Some Background, Donald Glover also goes by the rap name Childish Gambino. If you’re not familiar with his Grammy nominated sophomore album, “Because The Internet” check that out now. Back to Donald’s Atlanta. It’s a raw, real and raunchy show about two cousins trying to make it in the rap game. It tackles race, poverty and Atlanta’s culture in an honest way. Donald’s character Earnest is a broke, Princeton University drop-out who’s trying to manage his cousin’s new rap career. Earn is struggling with making ends meet for his family and it’s apparent that he’s almost desperate. Paper Boi, played by Brian Tyree Henry, a hot new rap star who has a different view on life and how to make it in the streets and rap game. So Earn, Paper Boi and his right hand man, Darius are trying to figure out a way to make some cash, get out of the streets of the ATL and live The American Dream. We’re three episodes into the first season and it’s earned the biggest Cable Comedy Debut in years. It’s well deserved. The writing is honest and brilliant. You can watch Atlanta on FX, Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST.
American Horror Story: The best part about AHS is that it’ll always keep its viewers guessing and wanting more. Even after Jessica Lange’s departure after season four’s Freak Show and Lady Gaga’s arrival to season five’s Hotel, the series is still one of Fall TV’s biggest cable shows. I never finished Hotel because the season lost me but that doesn’t mean I’m not thrilled to see what season six has to offer. I can’t tell you much of what to expect for this season and neither can the countless promo videos. AHS is keeping this season’s theme under tight wraps to keep the fans excited on what is to come. One thing we can tell that season will offer is pure creepiness. Each and every promo made me squirm, which is what this season needs. We need a fresh new season and a scary ass theme. American Horror Story comes on FX, Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST.
South Park: This marks South Park’s 20th season. The fact that this show has lasted this long still blows us away. I don’t need to give a history lesson on South Park, it’s a cult favorite and classic American animated comedy. What I love most about the show is the ability for the writers Trey Parker and Matt Stone to make me say “Oh My God, I can’t believe that kid said that,” while laughing, and making me think about social issues at the same time. At the surface, South Park is a show about a group of fifth graders who cuss and run into crazy antics. However, South Park tackles some of the world’s current topics and says what some of us are thinking. Episode one is all about this year’s Presidential Election. This is why season will be insane and worth the watch. The show can only get better. Catch Cartman and his “friends” on Comedy Central, Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST. It also premiers tonight, September 14.
How To Get Away With Murder: TGIT is on its way back to ABC. Well kinda, Scandal is on hiatus while Kerry Washington enjoys her second pregnancy and awaits the arrival of her new bundle of joy. But that doesn’t mean the students at Middleton University and their law professor Annalise aren’t ready to get away with even more murders. (haha) If you love a good drama, HTGAWM is perfect for you. Viola Davis is a dominant actress and even though she is a crooked defense attorney, I am rooting for her every episode. Season three shall be interesting for us viewers because we have so many questions to be (maybe) answered. “Who killed Wes’ biological dad?”and ummm…. “Where is Frank?” The Keating Five and their fearless leader can be seen starting, Thursday, September 22 on ABC at 10 p.m. EST.
