As soon as I applied for this new apartment, the first thing on my mind was, “How should I decorate my beauty room?” So alas our second bedroom aka my beauty room/studio has been one of the most exciting parts about having my own place. I get a place to film YouTube videos, blog and do makeup and hair. So it was important for me make this space of mine a creative space that is organized and cute while staying in my small budget. I plan to decorate the space as I go but for now, I am finally proud to show off my beauty studio! It was super easy and of course fun to set up.
The best and most “skilled” part of the beauty studio was setting up the lighting and mirror for the vanity. While I assumed it would be complicated to do, it was fairly easily especially with the help of my boyfriend. We got the mirror, light fixture, light bulbs, extension cord, wire stripper, and electrical tape all from Walmart for under $70. A lighted mirror by Vanity Girl alone starts at $200. Since I am not balling like that yet, I stuck to watching a few DIY YouTube videos on how to make a lighted vanity myself. This one by PatrickStarrr was incredibly helpful and easy to follow. I recommend it if you want to make a lighted vanity too. I followed his steps exactly and got the perfect outcome for my lights and mirror. While I did not set up a light switch for my lights, it is also an option that PatrickStarrr shows.
The next important piece to this beauty studio is the desk. It’s the central piece of the studio and holds most of my makeup and other beauty products. The desk was gift from my boyfriend’s mom since she was not using the desk anymore — aka free! So I was very grateful to receive one of the most essential pieces to my studio. A desk like this can be found at Walmart for about $60 or you can thrift one for even cheaper — I would recommend finding an used one that is a decent condition and make it your own.
On top of the desk is a majority of the products I use on a daily basis; including my brush holder with brushes, foundation, mascara, eyeshadow palettes, lipstick organizer, eye and lip liners, moisturizer and even my jewelry box and ring holder. I also have my small table top vanity mirror, which I use for detailed parts of my makeup routine. Inside of the “A slew of my favorite things” makeup bag there is more smaller makeup products until I get an acrylic organizer for the desk. I got this bag from Sephora during the holiday season and it’s not available online to be shipped in the US. But if you see any other products that you want more information on, let me know! I obviously love talking about makeup. 😉
My beauty studio still needs some more additions to the wall decor and extra storage but for now, I love it. It’s small but has everything I need until I expand my collection and grow as a makeup enthusiast. If you have any suggestions for great vanity/makeup studio ideas, please let me know! I am open to ideas and I love DIY projects, even though they stress me out.
