What’s a fashion blog without talking about the Met Gala? ( A few days late, I know.) The annual fundraising event is for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute (the fashion department), which serves as an opening event for the Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. The exhibit is a big deal. The Met is a big deal. But the Met Gala is the biggest deal for those of us who love red carpet events. The event sets the standards of who has style. The idea for the gala is to go big or glam …or go home. Many celebrities use this a time to experiment and step outside of the box, risking it all. I appreciate these celebs.
This year’s theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, is a fusion of homemade couture and machine made fashion. So the first idea I thought of was metallic inspired pieces. Easy of enough, many of the celebrities and attendees thought so too. But it was those who took the idea to another level that stole my heart and made me “like” plenty of pictures on Instagram to show my approval. (But it does suck that Rihanna wasn’t there…)
The first fab approved style star is Zendaya, a red carpet superstar. She looked gorgeous. Her makeup and hair was Cher-from-the-70s-inspired and was perfectly styled. Wearing a one shoulder, gold gown by Michael Kors, she looked almost unrecognizable. Elegant, daring and simple. How does one pull off all of this in one look? I’ll never know but I love seeing her at every event and her at the Met Gala 2016 night was no different.
The next style star on Good Girl Gone Fab’s list of winners at the event is, Ciara. This singer is another star that never fails to impress and always takes her appearances to the next level. Who would have imagined that silver hair could look so beautiful on a red carpet. Full blow metallic silver too, not gray. Go Ciara for being daring! She rocked her short silver mane with a gorgeous H&M dress with major side boobage, but the details on this dress go perfect with her hair. If this was anything other than the Met Gala, I would’ve questioned her choice but she definitely was dedicated to the theme.
Even if you hate the name Kardashian and Jenner, most of the time you have to respect their styles. I think the entire family is a hilarious and I like to Keep Up With them but it’s their fashion choices that always keep me engaged and wanting more. This year it was the Jenner girls that looked fab on the steps of the Met. Both Kendall and Kylie came to the event stunningly but completely different, like always.
Kendall wore a blue and gold Versace piece, which was hand picked by Donatella Versace, herself who also accompanied the supermodel. Her face and hair were simple which was a good thing because it helped compliment her figure.
Honestly, I’m pretty sure Kylie has worn something like this before. But it’s her style and it looked cute so why change what works? Either way, this silver and jeweled gown by Balmain was stunning. I saw people say that it didn’t fit her but I think the dress was more-so was heavy and draped her body. Either way the sheer cutouts were sexy and made my jaw drop. (Although she could have used a pedicure…because yeah…)
I think Jourdan Dunn may be my new girl crush, for obvious reasons. The super model never has a bad style day. She’s another star that took the theme literal with her Balmain piece. She also went for a silver/gray hair look but kept it more natural with black undertones and roots. If there was ever a model that I could trade places with for a day, it would be her.
I have an entire list of stars that I loved on the red carpet, but my last pick and favorite couple of the night goes to Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik. I’m a fan of PDA (weird, I know) and their affection towards one another on their first red carpet together was enough for my heart to melt. But the best part of their outfits wasn’t his tux or her dress, it was the accessories. Zayn wore armored sleeves over his Versace tux while Gigi added giant silver rings to go with her metallic Tommy Hilfiger gown with a choker neck. It was the best interpretation for the tech theme from the guys for sure. And Gigi looked gorgeous as always.
