The most important aspects of good beauty habits are to clean your body, skin and hair regularly. Simple. It’s the only way you’ll smell fresh, your skin will be clear and your hair will grow. The method you choose to keep yourself clean is completely personal and dependent on your lifestyle but there’s always room for me to share tips to those who may be looking for a new way to do things.
Making sure I look and feel my best is essential to living a productive life. And even though I talk about makeup A LOT, the most important steps of making sure my face is beat is making sure my skin is happy first. More often than not, skin care is glossed over in the world of makeup. I’ve seen it myself while working at Sephora. Makeup lovers would buy hundreds of dollars worth of makeup but would never invest in the health of their face, only the created look. Don’t get me wrong. I was the same way when I first got into makeup. In fact it wasn’t until I started working at Sephora last year when I realized that I was on the wrong path for keeping my skin happy.
My old skin care routine wasn’t a routine at all actually. It was more so just washing my face occasionally with Clean & Clear’s Morning Burst Facial Cleanser (which is a great product), and using body lotion to “moisturize”. (I know…tragic). I was doing more harm than help to my skin. Luckily working with so many talented women at Sephora, I learned that the true magic of beauty routines and how they actually work.
In December 2015, I started using the boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser. It’s a warming gel cleanser that cleans the skin, unclogs pores and actually helps wake me up in the morning as well. The gel warms once it is rubbed in the palm of my hand with water and then I apply it to my face and massage the lather all over my face. The cleanser takes of every bit of makeup and leaves my skin looking and feeling natural and pure. I love the boscia products because they are preservative-free products. They leave out the extras to ensure that the products you use to clean your face keep your face healthy. The Detoxifying Black Cleanser has Artichoke Leaf Extract (Improves elasticity to help tighten pore walls), Charcoal (Draws out excess oil and impurities as it detoxifies), Glycolic Acid (Helps clarify skin and smooth rough texture) and Vitamin C (Helps brighten skin tone and minimize the appearance of fine lines as it defends from free radical damage). Having oily skin and dark spots, this cleanser is my holy grail because the products takes away the extra oils that cause breakouts and brightens the spots that are hyper pigmented.
After cleansing my skin, I have to moisturize with a non drying but not too oily of a product. I’ve found solace in the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. Clinique is a widely loved beauty brand and I see why. This is the only product from their line that I use on a consistent basis but it works like a charm. While my skin in oily in most parts, I also have dry patches — particularly on my cheeks. This gel works great for me because it leaves my skin feeling soft and fresh. After stripping my skin down to it’s purest form with the cleanser, this gel works to put a bit more life into my face while keeping it clean. It doesn’t clog my pores and and it doesn’t make my face a greasy mess. Another added bonus: the gel is fragrance free.
I use 1-2 pumps of each product per use.
Don’t get me wrong. These products aren’t cheap but they last and they’re worth the buy. (I purchased the products myself.) I know there’s a person out there looking to find great products that are pure, great for all skin types and easy to find. You don’t want to apply makeup to a dry and dirty face, your makeup won’t look as good.
If the Detoxifying Black Cleaner or the Dramatically Different Moisturizing doesn’t work for you, both boscia and Clinique have other great products that work for your specific skin!
Cleaning and moisturizing are simple but they are also the most important steps in making sure the face you have is a face that you love– even without the makeup.
