By now, you all know that I spent the weekend in Los Angeles with my two friends Charletta and Tierra (Hey Y’all). And the central reason for the trip was to go to the BeautyCon Festival, which was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown LA. In short, BeautyCon is a convention where beauty and lifestyle brands come together to celebrate the beauty industry, self-love and self-expression for ALL. It’s a two-day event that includes celebrities, influencers, bloggers and makeup artists from all races, genders, backgrounds, and status. It’s designed to be an event for us all to celebrate something we love!
BeautyCon is hosted in Los Angeles, New York City, and London every year and people travel (like Tierra & I) from all over to come to the event. Before going to the festival myself, I watched YouTube videos on other people’s experiences at the events to see what I could expect for the trip. I will say from the videos, I was a bit a nervous that it wouldn’t pan out to be as fun as I hoped. But actually, my experience turned to be so much more than I could have wished for.
To me, BeautyCon is what you make of it. There are thousands of people, hundreds of brands and the vibe is very positive. But it can be overwhelming if you don’t understand the true purpose. So the event is set up for there to be something to do for everyone all day (12-5pm). Whether it was listening to the speaker, playing games and entering giveaways or standing in line to meet your favorite influencer, you weren’t bored. My friends and I went on Saturday and got General Admission tickets ($50) for the event. Other packages for the event included goodie bags and meet ups for influencers but I think the GA tickets served its purpose because I still got free stuff (which will be in another post) and I still met and saw plenty of influencers!
Walking into BeautyCon, there’s a large room full of stages, booths, games, and things to explore and buy. Many brands that I love were there such as BeautyBlender, Anastasia Beverly Hills, The Lip Bar, L’Oreal, Maybelline, NYX, Lime Crime, Real Techniques, Shea Moisture, Ardell Beauty, BH Cosmetics, PrettyLittleThing and so much more.
The list of talent that was there was also huge, but for Saturday I got a chance to meet Makeup Shayla (we were on her snapchat!), Alissa Ashley, Arnell Armon, and Jasmine Sanders. I was about 20 seconds away from meeting Jackie Aina but sis is popular and was on the move. Haha. I also got a chance to see Amber Rose, Yara Shahidi, Tracee Ellis Ross, Patrick Starr, Claudia Soare (From ABH), Jay Manuel, Laverne Cox, Zendaya, Teni, Panosian, and the list goes on.
It was just so much fun to be with friends and other people who appreciate the beauty world. I would go to BeautyCon again next year and hopefully be more outgoing and brand myself and GoodGirlGoneFab. I would definitely advise others to go if they absolutely love beauty and makeup. (Wear comfortable shoes.) Plus traveling to LA, NYC or London is a vacation in itself. The biggest takeaway from the event was to stay consistent and positive. Many of the beauty bloggers that I met and who gave their 411 on how to make it, started where I am today.
